Do Your Winter Tires Go With the Car, or Do You Sell Them Separately?

Your winter set cost money. Check what it adds to the offer before throwing it into the deal.

You’ve got a set of winters in the garage or taking up half the locker. Now you’re selling the car, and you’d like to get something for them. Should you sell your winter tires separately or include them? Ask what they add to the offer before deciding they’re part of the deal.

Ask for two clear prices

Ask the buyer for a vehicle-only price and a price including the winter set. Do this before agreeing on the package. Once your listing or signed agreement includes the tires, removing them can create an avoidable disagreement.

For example, imagine a buyer offers an additional $200 for the set. If a realistic separate sale could bring $350, your potential advantage is $150 before travel, storage and time answering messages. These are illustrative numbers, not a valuation of your tires.

Put the tire details in the ad

A separate tire listing needs more than “fits Honda.” Record the tire brand, model and size, whether wheels are included, and any wheel specifications you can verify. Photograph all four tires and wheels, including visible wear or damage.

Don’t guess about tread depth, manufacturing date or compatibility. Have a tire professional help if you’re unsure. The fact that wheels fit your current car doesn’t prove they will fit a buyer’s different model or trim.

Will you keep the winters for your next car?

If you plan to keep the set for your next vehicle, confirm fitment before counting that as a saving. If you’re moving out of a Montreal apartment with no storage, a separate sale may be inconvenient even when the advertised price looks better.

There’s also a difference between an asking price and someone agreeing to collect the set. Compare realistic offers, not the most expensive listing you can find.

Put the final package in writing

List the included tires, wheels and accessories in the sale agreement. Keep photos so everyone knows which set was discussed. If the tires are stored elsewhere, agree on collection arrangements before completing the transaction.

Ask Car Buyers Montreal for an offer and mention the extra set during follow-up. You can decide whether to include it once you understand how it affects the proposed purchase price.
