You’ve agreed on a price and the buyer asks, “Can we just do it on SAAQclic?” For an eligible private sale, that can save a trip to a service outlet. But check your SAAQclic vehicle transfer setup first. The time to discover an account problem isn’t when the buyer’s waiting beside the car.

Check whether you can do it online

The SAAQ lists conditions for online transfers, including the vehicle category, age, registration and unpaid fines. Certain situations, such as a transaction using power of attorney, are excluded from the online process. Read the current SAAQ transfer instructions for your circumstances.

Don’t assume instructions for a straightforward sale between two individuals cover a business purchase, an estate or an out-of-province buyer. Identify the transaction type first.

Make sure you can both log in

Ask the buyer whether they can sign in to their own account and complete their part of the process. Check your own access too. Account setup or an identity-verification issue is much easier to resolve before somebody arrives with a ride home waiting outside.

Never share your password or let someone complete your personal account steps while you’re distracted. Each person should understand what they are accepting.

Sort out payment and the transfer together

Write down the agreed price and conditions separately from the registration process. Discuss payment verification, the transfer and the moment the keys change hands. Initiating an online request isn’t the same as confirming that every required step is finished.

Keep the confirmations and signed sale records relevant to your transaction. If a screen shows a problem, pause and contact the SAAQ through its official channels. Don’t treat a buyer’s promise to “finish it tomorrow” as confirmation.

If SAAQclic won’t work, plan the visit

If the online route is unavailable, check the appropriate service-outlet procedure and appointment arrangements. It may mean rescheduling the handover. That’s frustrating, but clearer than improvising paperwork you don’t understand.
